Sodium dithionite: 7775-14-6
Main use
Insurance powder is widely used in the textile industry of reducing dyeing, reduction cleaning, printing and decolorization and used as silk, wool, nylon and other fabrics bleaching, because it does not contain heavy metals, the bleached fabric color bright, not easy to fade. In terms of various substances, the insurance powder can also be used for food bleaching, such as gelatin, sucrose, honey, etc., soap, moving (plant) oil, bamboo, porcelain clay bleaching, etc. Insurance powder can also be used in organic synthesis, such as dyes, pharmaceutical production as a reducing agent or bleaching agent, it is the most suitable for wood pulp paper bleaching agent.
Main Hazards
Sodium dithionite is commonly known as insurance powder, but insurance powder is actually not "insurance". Many accidents show that sodium dithionite's spontaneous combustion, explosive, toxic, flammable in water or acid, and the instability of its aqueous solution determine its risk. Once an accident occurs, its fire risk is huge.
spontaneous combustion
Sodium dithionite has a self-ignition point of 250 ℃. Due to its low ignition point, it is a first-class flammable solid (the ignition point is generally below 300 ℃, and the flash point of low melting point is below 100 ℃). It is extremely easy to burn in case of heat, kindling, friction and impact, with fast combustion speed and high fire risk. Hydrogen sulfide gas generated in the combustion process may also cause a larger combustion area and increase its fire risk.
Fire protection measures
Hazardous characteristics: Strong reducing agent. Spontaneous combustion at 250 ℃. Heat or contact with open flame can burn. Exposed to the air will be oxidized and deteriorated. Contact with water, acids or organic matter, oxidants, can release a lot of heat caused by violent combustion, and release of sulfur dioxide. Hazardous combustion products: sulfide.
Fire extinguishing method: move the container from the fire to the open area as much as possible.
Extinguishing agent: dry powder, carbon dioxide, sand. Use plenty of water, do not use a small amount of water.
Emergency treatment of leakage
Isolate the leak contaminated area and restrict access. Cut off the fire source. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus,
Chemical protective clothing
Wear chemical protective clothing. Do not touch the leak directly. Small amount of leakage: avoid dust and collect it in a dry, clean and covered container with a clean shovel. Large spills: Cover with dry lime, sand or soda ash, collect with non-sparking tools for recycling or transport to waste disposal sites.
Operation storage
Operation Precautions
Closed operation, local exhaust. Operators must be specially trained and strictly abide by the operating procedures. Operators are advised to wear self-priming filter dust masks, safety goggles, chemical protective clothing and latex gloves. Keep away from fire and heat sources. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Keep away from flammable and combustible materials. Avoid creating dust. Avoid contact with oxidants and acids. Particular care should be taken to avoid contact with water. Handle lightly to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equipped with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may leave harmful substances.
Storage Considerations
Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. The relative humidity is kept below 75%. The packaging is required to be sealed and not in contact with air. It should be stored separately from oxidant, acid and easily (combustible) materials, and mixed storage is forbidden. Explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities shall be adopted. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are easy to produce sparks. The storage area shall be provided with suitable materials to contain spills.
